capitalist arithmetic
03:27
|
|||
you look out across the street
what is this commotion all about?
there's a smell across your nose
and the smoke is getting to your eyes
it's not an act of war
it's just a solution of arithmetic
it's not your fever rising
it's just the phrasing of your politics
i swore, i'd close my eyes
keeping to myself
working on the line
they're closing off the roads,
and beating people in streets
they say we started it,
but i say they're lying through their teeth
it's not an act war,
it's just a way they keep their capital
it's not your fever rising,
it's just a violence they make casual
i swore, i'd bide my time
keeping to myself,
working all the time

temperature

you get this feeling,
your stomach twists, whenever you walk through a crowd,
you can't tell if you're breathing
strangers look, their eyes are watching you now
it's not the temperature,
it's not the temperature,
it's not the temperature,
that's making us hate
you've gotten good at keeping your distance
cause you know that people they always let you down
so you're left adrift and alone
do you feel like an abandoned lorelei?
it's not the temperature,
it's not the temperature,
it's not the temperature,
that's making us hate
it's not the temperature,
no not the temperature
it's not the temperature
that's making us hate

from honey to ashes
02:35
|
|||
you're lighting the pipe
and drinking the mead
you gather your myths,
and you're drawing your leads
aaaaa--oh
aaaaa--oh
sent in your prime, to go check these stories out
do they always fit your structure?
are there no surprises now?
this is control
this is control
the animals, you ponder in dreams
what purpose they serve? what do they mean?
well your charts they know
so far from home
how is your mission?
deconstructing the bees,
what purpose do they serve? what do they all mean?
this is control
this is control
this is control
this is control

another number comes on
03:29
|
|||
out on the town it's so clinically cold
run for fun until your knees explode
another number comes on
you comprehend but can hardly explain
the kind words only hide your disdain
another number comes on
unctuous smug slug character
among the leaves of gray
what a very bland thing to say
they like their purge with a personal touch
she don't agree so she doesn't talk much
reaching through the gate of a wrought iron fence
with an intricately designed family crest
another number comes on
caught in a pool of emotional spray
you work at night to keep the thing at bay
until your number comes up
you comprehend but can hardly explain
the kind words only hide your disdain
another number comes on

Mass Observation New York
Mass Observation is a remote collaboration from Davis White (Lorelei; We Capillaries; The New Lines) and Hewson Chen (Lake Ruth; The New Lines). The music can be loosely described as post-punk, with a slightly different character from their other bands. Recorded in a VA living room and NYC kitchen cupboard during the COVID-19 quarantine, some themes from current times are certainly in play here. ... more
